Release notes · September 15, 2026 · iOS build 41 · Android version 41
A million more businesses, and two ways to tell us what the map got wrong
1.4 million businesses on the map instead of 630,000, a Report a problem and Suggest an edit button on every card, a pin you can drop where a missing place really is, Large Text Mode for small screens, spoken directions that stop stuttering over CarPlay, a new icon, and two things you can switch on to help other drivers — blocked turns and how fast the road is moving, both anonymous and both off unless you say yes.
Four builds' work since version 1.0, which is the last one that reached anyone. Most of it comes from your mail: the map was missing the shop you were driving to, the voice talked over your podcast in the car, the text was too small to read at a glance.
Every item says whether it is in the app (you need this build) or on our server (already live, whatever build you are running).
New: a million more businesses, and a way to fix them
- 1.4 million businesses on the map, up from 630,000, from the Overture Maps Foundation's open data. Three in four carry a phone number or a website. They appear from zoom 14 in, and a card says where its listing came from and that nobody has checked it yet. On our server.
- Report a problem, on any business card: closed, wrong spot, listed twice, wrong details — and "It's open", when we have it wrong the other way. In the app.
- Suggest an edit: the name, address, phone, website or hours. In the app.
- Add a missing place, with a pin you drag to where it really is. In the app.
- "May have closed" on a listing the evidence says has shut, instead of sending you there. On our server.
- Seven more quick filters on the search sheet — food, grocery, pharmacy, hotels, ATM, hospital, rest area — in a row that swipes. In the app.
- A tapped pin grows into its own glyph rather than a plain disc, and place details load faster: three sources are raced and a slow one dropped. In the app.
Nothing you send changes the map on its own. Every suggestion is read before it goes anywhere near what other drivers see.
New: two ways to help other drivers, if you want to
Both are off unless you turn them on. The app asks once, and either one can be switched off again in Settings. The privacy policy says exactly what each one sends.
- Tell us about blocked turns. When construction closes a turn your route asked for and you drive past it, the app can share where that turn was and which way it went. Never your trip, where it started or where it ended. In the app.
- Share how fast the road is moving. How fast a stretch of main road went, as a share of the speed limit and never above it, with the quarter hour. Reports wait on your phone and go one at a time, hours later, with nothing that identifies you or the phone. Once you have parked, the app may ask what held you up. In the app.
The first makes your own phone route around a turn you couldn't make, straight away. The rest of it is for later: enough drivers have to see the same thing before anyone else's route changes.
New: on the road
- Large Text Mode, under Settings → Accessibility: a simpler navigation screen, home sheet and place card, with bigger text and far more map. In the app.
- The sound button is three-way: everything, turns only, muted. In the app.
- "Stay on Anthony Henday Drive for 14 kilometres" between turns, in the app's own voice. In the app.
- Two quick turns in a row are announced together with the first. In the app.
- The minutes to go are the big number in the navigation bar, with the arrival clock small. In the app.
- The map zooms with the road: wider on a highway, closer in town. In the app.
- A turn you drive past because you can't make it is remembered on your phone for a few days, and later routes go around it. Settings → Routing lists them, with Forget. In the app.
- A new app icon: the maple leaf and pin on a grey map.
Fixed
- Spoken directions over CarPlay no longer stutter or break up. They go out as voice prompts, the way a car expects them, so a podcast pauses for a direction instead of being talked over. Music still dips. In the app.
- "Your destination is on the left" is no longer said kilometres early on a route that comes back past itself. In the app.
- The map stayed on TomTom's tiles after our own map was briefly unreachable, until the app was relaunched. In the app.
- The route line was drawn under the roads on TomTom's map. In the app.
- A business whose name carried a tagline after a pipe was listed under the whole thing, and a suburb was offered as the town for an address that had none. On our server.
Changed on our side, with no app update
- City routes count the time lost at lights and drive city streets at the speed they are really driven, so arrival times are closer and fewer routes wander onto side streets.
- Closed roads are fenced along the shut stretch, not at the junction the detour turns at.
- Search answers faster, and the weekly rebuild now refuses to go live if it would make search worse than the map already on the box.
