Swipe the panel away, and Home stops grabbing the wrong place

A short build, and everything in it came from your emails. The search panel can be dragged out of the way, setting Home asks before it saves, and Android testers get their first build.

A short build, and everything in it came from your emails. On Android, release 7 is the first build to reach testers, so all of this is new there.

New: swipe the panel down for more map

Several of you said the white panel holding the search box and your saved places ate too much of the screen. You can now drag it down out of the way, leaving the search bar within reach, and drag it back up when you want it. It opens itself as soon as you start typing.

Fixed: setting Home no longer grabs the wrong place

Two of you hit this on the same morning. Tapping "Set home address" put the app into a state where the next place you picked was saved as Home, and it stayed in that state quietly. One tester set out to save Home, went looking for a distillery instead, and found the distillery sitting in her home address.

The app now asks first. You get "Save this as Home?" with the name and address in front of you, and Cancel leaves your search exactly where it was so you can carry on looking. If a wrong Home or Work is already saved on your phone, this build lets you fix it.

New: Home and Work have an edit button

Changing a saved place used to mean pressing and holding the row, which almost nobody found. There is a pencil on the right of each saved row now. Pressing and holding still works.

New: the search box says what it wants

While you are setting Home, the field reads "Search an address for Home" instead of "Where to?". One of you read the old screen as demanding coordinates and a dropped pin, and never realised an address could simply be typed. It always could.

Type your address the way you would search for a coffee shop, and tap the result. For a rural property the lookup cannot place, press and hold on the map at the exact spot instead. That saves the point itself and ignores the address lookup entirely.

Known gaps

  • Live charger availability is off until our data plan is updated.
  • CarPlay is built but waiting on Apple's approval.
  • Transit directions are not in the app and are not planned for launch.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in. Every change above started as an email from a tester.
